SSP Student Council

The Security Studies Program (SSP) Student Council is an elected body of current SSP students that plays an integral role in the planning and execution of student events and represents the student body to the administration and faculty of SSP. The SSP Student Council is committed to ensuring that the SSP experience is not only memorable, but exceptional. Since its inception in the Fall of 2013, the SSP Student Council has played a critical role in establishing and maintaining an exceptional degree of camaraderie and community among the students, faculty, and administration of the program.

Events

Student Council hosts various events designed to enhance professional development, build a sense of community within SSP, and connect SSP students to SSP faculty, professionals in the field, alumni, and the Georgetown and D.C. communities at large. These events include:

  • Happy Hours
  • Weekly Council Coffees
  • Bi-Annual Flag Football and Soccer Games
  • Fall Festival
  • Friendsgiving
  • Alumni Networking Events
  • Skills Workshops
  • Museum Trips

Student Council also spearheads a number of philanthropic events on campus. Student Council hosts these events in partnership with a number of non-profits selected by the student body. Some of the philanthropy events the Student Council hosts or participates in include:

  • Covert Affair Gala and Silent Auction
  • P.O.K.E.R. Night

Elections

Student Council Members are elected by the SSP student body at large, with elections taking place at the start of the Fall and the Spring semesters. Officer positions, including President, Vice President, Treasurer, Communications Director, and SFS Representative are yearly commitments. SSP Representatives are elected every semester.
