Doug Umberger
Director of Admissions and Alumni Engagement
With over a decade of professional admissions experience, Doug Umberger proudly serves as the Director of Admissions and Alumni Engagement for the Center for Security Studies, after previously serving as the Deputy/Associate Director of Admissions for the Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) Program in the School of Foreign Service.
In his role, Doug oversees the SSP enrollment strategy; chairs the Admissions and Scholarship Committees, as well as admissions for the SSP Summer Institutes; administers incoming merit-based scholarships; manages marketing, advertising, recruitment events, and virtual programming; coordinates alumni engagement outreach and initiatives; and directs the SSP Ambassador Program.
Doug also teaches MSFS 5705, Diplomatic Communications, as an Adjunct Professor. Prior to joining Georgetown University, he worked in various admissions, marketing, alumni relations, and teaching positions at Loyola University New Orleans, Loyola University Maryland, Anne Arundel Community College, and York College of Pennsylvania.
Doug graduated from York College of Pennsylvania (BA, Speech Communication; Class President and Cum Laude), Loyola University Maryland (MA, Communications/Emerging Media), and Cornell University (Diversity and Inclusion Certification). Away from the Hilltop, Doug is a proud LGBTQ+ ally and enjoys trivia, traveling, tennis, and exploring the District with his husband and French Bulldog.
