Professor Brian Blankenship
Dr. Brian Blankenship is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. He specializes in international relations, and his research interests lie at the intersection of international security and international cooperation, with a substantive focus on U.S. foreign policy and the politics of military alliances.
In his book, The Burden-Sharing Dilemma: Coercive Diplomacy in US Alliance Politics (published by Cornell University Press in November 2023), he examines the conditions under which the United States attempts to encourage its allies to assume more responsibility for their own defense, as well as those conditions under which its pressure is more likely to succeed.
Dr. Blankenship was previously a Stanton Nuclear Security Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and a U.S. Foreign Policy and International Security Fellow at Dartmouth College's Dickey Center for International Understanding. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University.
