Leo Michel
Non-resident fellow, Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA)
Since joining FIIA in 2015, Leo Michel has authored reports, organized conferences, and hosted the “Transatlantic Currents” webinar series with a focus on NATO, the role of nuclear weapons in European security, and US defense cooperation with Finland and Sweden. Mr. Michel is also a non-resident fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Security and Strategy.
During his 35-year government career, Mr. Michel served as a CIA analyst, policy advisor for arms control and NATO issues in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and distinguished research fellow at National Defense University’s Institute for National Strategic Studies. He holds a BA from Princeton and MA from Johns Hopkins SAIS.
